This Sunday our church is teaming up with St. John's United Church in downtown Oakville to raise money for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank sends food to people who are on the verge of starvation in 31 countries around the world. In February the CFB sent 2 months supply of food to 1200 families in Haiti!

Have you been wondering how you can help feed those who are hungry?  Now you have your chance!

This Sunday, March 7th we need help in serving and take-down for the dinners at St. John's for the dinner.

The money raised from the dinner will go to feed Hungry People ALL Around the WORLD!

If you can help, we need people from 5:30-9:00pm Sunday night.
If you have been in confirmation, you might think about asking your sponsor to come with you!

A Child Needs You!

When was the first time you heard about Jesus taking a little bit of bread and a few fish and sharing with lots and lots of people?

Do you remember who taught you about God making the earth and the animals and people?

What is the first song you remember learning in church?

Who explained how God could be in your heart and in space at the same time?

Children learn about God and the Christian faith because we teach them.

At Maple Grove, we value the gift of our children and youth and so... we have created a special opportunity for them to learn in LIGHT Connection!

We need 2 people who will teach 2 & 3 yr. olds during the month of March and May.

We also need 2 more people who will help to teach the gr. 1 & gr. 2 classes for April and May.

Rev. Amy will provide curriculum and one-on-one resources for those people who feel called to this ministry!

S.O.S. - Emergency Medical Response Plan
      Calling all hands!!!

As part of our renovation here at Maple Grove we are looking at all aspects of the use of our building and systems and the safety of our members.

We are presently updating our EM Response Plan as well as our medical response supplies and equipment. This is part of an initiative by the province to safeguard publically used facilities.

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to be trained in CPR as well as the use of a Public Access Defibrillator to be installed in the church. Believe it or not, anyone can be trained quickly and simply on using one and you will begin to see these units installed everywhere.

Your participation would be structured around learning what to do in the event of emergencies during church activities you are attending and being able to direct appropriate actions in as efficient a manner as possible as time is the enemy during a crisis

All training will be provided to us by EMS Halton - they are the top in the field.

What you learn could make you a lifesaver, here or at home, to a friend or loved one.

We need lots of people to ensure someone will be available at each service and function, so please join us.

If you are in good health and interested in helping us with our medical response team let the office know or call Craig McLaughlin at (905) 338-2205

  Golden Anniversary Fertilizer Sale
Maple Grove United Church,
Saturday, April 17, 2010

Mark Your Calendar!

Mark your calendar! This year's 50th Annual Fertilizer Sale is now just five Sundays away!

As always, the Fertilizer Committee urgently needs volunteers to help with the sale. The biggest current need is for Territory Captains, the people responsible for the distribution of flyers to an assigned neighbourhood and following up with past customers who live in that area.

We have several Oakville territories that need captains, for example:

Territory 45:  Bounded by Cornwall, Dunvegan, Carlisle & Blenheim Cresc.
Territory 47:  Clarkson Customers
Territory 57:  Bounded by Kingsway Drive and Sheridan Garden Drive

Our 50th Annual Fertilizer Sale will be challenged by continuing growth in fertilizer services provided by professional lawn care companies. We'll also face complying with the new Oakville herbicide and pesticide by-law introduced in 2008. Your Fertilizer Committee offers only products fully compliant with the Oakville fertilizer by-law.

If you are willing to help with Maple Grove's 50th Annual Fertilizer Sale, please contact any member of this year's committee. We need your help!

A Second Habitat for Humanity Build

To the Congregation of Maple Grove United Church!

We have been asked to participate in our second Habitat build - this time in Oakville. This will also be a "Faith" build where we share the project with other churches from Oakville.

Once again Morar has offered us an opportunity to practice our Christian faith by sharing our gifts with others. Habitat's goals and objectives are well known and Oakville has many people who need our help.

I will provide an update in the near future where I will outline how you can get involved.

If you have thoughts, comments, and/or a cheque writing frenzy please email me.

Regards
John Berg - jgberg@cogeco.ca

Making Graduation Dreams Come True:
Inside The Dream

Inside The Dream is a non-profit charitable organization, run by volunteers, that aims to make dreams come true, providing graduating students of grade eight and grade twelve with the formal attire and accessories needed to fully enjoy their special night.

Inside The Dream relies solely on the community for donations, and we are seeking the community's assistance in making dreams come true for the graduation class of 2010 in the 905 area. In our annual event "Boutique Day" held on April 12th, qualified students will join us for their opportunity to select their gown, tuxedo, suits and accessories at no charge. Graduating students are referred from high school counsellors, teachers, social services agencies and community workers.
The one thing we can do is give them their night to shine. Your simple gesture can help make a difference in a young student's life by donating formal attire and accessories.

Inside The Dream relies on the community for donations, if you know you won't wear it again, please donate to Inside The Dream your new or gently used gowns tuxedos, suits, shoes, jewellery and more. To learn more on how Inside The Dream began, please visit us online at www.insidethedream.org  or contact us by phone at 905-510-3854.

If you have items you would like to donate, please contact Carole-Ann Woods, 905-624-3939.

  The United Church of Canada:
85th Anniversary

In June of 2010 The United Church of Canada will celebrate its 85th anniversary.

The theme of the year will be "Remember, Renew, Rejoice!" The General Council Office will work to encourage, enable and support local ministries in anniversary celebrations.

In February, congregations will receive mailings which will include a DVD with a message from the Moderator,  an outline for a celebratory Worship Service, Bible Study, Balloons, Book marks (in many languages!)... items to help us celebrate this special occasion.

In March there will be a random pairing of United Church congregations across the country with the hope of developing new relationships among people of the United Church of Canada.

Each Conference has contributed 5 kg of locally grown and milled flour which will be combined, packaged and distributed to all congregations, and a recipe will be included for making bannock. This unique combination of flour will be used to bake a common loaf for the 85th anniversary communion services.

On June 10, 2010 there will be an Open House at the General Council Office at 3250 Bloor St. W. to celebrate this anniversary. This event will be followed on June 20 by a celebratory church service at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto.
